This is the first clip demonstrating the CV output of my new Pseudo Random circuit.

The Pseudo Random circuit is fed into the frequency CV input of a simple triangle wave oscillator (from the Moog Ring Modulator). The Pseudo Random circuit can go from glacial speeds up into high audio range. Towards the end of the clip you can hear more of the audio rate FM sounds it can generate. During the clip I am changing the rates of the two clocks that control the random CV, turning the slew/portamento on and off as well as swapping between “pattern mode” and “random mode”. No other devices are used. One can feed this into any CV input that can handle 0-6V. This range can be lowered by using an attenuator or expanded with a DC-coupled amplifier.

There are two pseudo-random gate outputs, one of which repeats the other, but trails it by two clock pulses (crazy rhythmic variations when triggering percussive sounds). There’s also a CV pattern output that is related to the clocks with a switchable slew/portamento as well as a switch that makes it produce more chaotic results. Everything is controlled by a pair of clocks which are adjustable with fine (potentiometer) and coarse (capacitor switching) controls. The coarse controls are rotary switches. The two left most LEDs show the clock rates, the other four LEDs show the logic states in the 4-bit shift register that governs the random section. It goes well up into audio rate and can do some hideous shortwave radio and bitcrusher-esque timbres. It also works as a pitched digital noise source.

New addition for the production version: a pair of voltage controlled switches with input and output jacks that are controlled by the random gates, which allow one to chop up external audio rhythmically or “ring modulate” when the device runs at audio rate. Plug in radios, tape players, other synthesizers, contact mics, etc. or use it to turn on/off feedback loops within a matrix mixer. Split one signal to both switches and you have a random stereo panner of sorts.

I’m working on the PCB layout and will be ordering boards asap. These will probably be in the same enclosures as my Matrix Mixers. Powered by 9V DC. Stay tuned for more info. Price TBD.

Brief demonstration of my new CV pattern generator producing audio without any other devices. It features two tempo-synced random gate outputs and a related CV output with switchable slew/lag. The patterns are generated by a pair of clocks that feature adjustable tempo and switchable tempo ranges from glacial pulses to high audio range. At audio rate it produces sounds reminiscent of shortwave radio scanning and bitcrushing and can also operate as a nice pitched digital noise generator (listen to the end of the clip). All outputs can be used for CV or audio.

In this clip, the two gate outputs are hard panned so that you can hear the clicks swirl around the stereo spectrum (listen with headphones for best results) The gate outputs as well as the CV output can control external equipment, resulting in all sorts of mayhem. More on that later…

Current specs, subject to change:
The gate outputs switch between approximately 0-9V
The CV output range is approximately 0-6V
Powered by 9V battery or 9V DC supply

I’m trying to avoid excessive feature creep, but I have a couple more tricks that I might add.

I’m selling my Ciat Lonbarde Rollz-5 synthesizer

I built this on paper circuit boards this past December. I’ve used it a ton as my only instrument during performances these last few months. I’ve started constructing a totally tricked out Dual Rollz-5 and can’t imagine still needing this one as well.

In this Rollz-5 we have:
A 3-Roll, 4-Roll, 5-Roll and 6-Roll - chaotic sequencing brains of the Rollz-5, but they also make some incredible Cracklebox-esque timbres when patched directing to the outputs (check the audio below)
One AVDog - modded with a switching pot that brings in a special high gain insanity mode
Two Ultrasound Filters
Two Gongs - each modded with their own decay knobs
Three assignable 1/4” outputs - send the Gongs to your sub and run the rest in stereo for maximum intensity

Also included is a foam-lined carrying case with storage room for accessories and a bunch of alligator clips for patching.

It can be played with alligator clips, flesh or anything else conductive. The Rolls especially are very touch sensitive. Beer cans are one of my favorite interfaces for playing it (see the video below). Power is supplied by a 9V battery and it is safe for finger lickin’ goodness.
